Sleep Hack – Have a Regular Waking Time



Do you plan your schedule around when you have to get up? Do you have varying wake-up times, depending on the day’s activities?

Here’s a better solution – get up at the same time every day.

Look at your schedule and figure out the earliest time you need to be up. Set your alarm for that time. Get up at that time every morning.

Going to bed at the same time usually isn’t as important. If you have a regular waking time, you’ll naturally feel tired around the same time each evening. If you shoot for bedtime at that time and make yourself maintain the waking time, your body will fall into a rhythm.

What does this get you? Lots of things:

  • No more fiddling with the alarm clock – just flip it on each night
  • A solid daily routine – don’t we all work better with a steady schedule?
  • Your biological clock will be happy
  • It will be easier to wake up in the mornings
  • Your morning ritual can be the same every day
  • The family can rely on your waking time

    The best alarm in the world is yourself. You have to decide when to wake up and be committed, not “5 more minutes”

    Andrew – this is great advice.

    I had this hack forced on me (2 children under the age of 7)

    They ALWAYS wake at 6am regardless of the day of the week or season.

    At first I resented this but now find that it allows me do do the low level admin actions that life accumultes for me so that by 8am I’m a full throttle.

    (I’m must admit I’m also looking forward to getting them out of bed at 6am once they hit their teens)

    It sounds like kids are good for sleep habits. 🙂

    Good luck getting them up at 6am when they’re teens. I definitely didn’t get up that early when I was younger. 😉

    Yes they are good for sleep habits. My 2 sleep 11 hours straight (7pm – 6am) and then are at full speed for 13 hours.

    I need to tune into their way of living. Unfortunately I cannot get used to retiring at 7pm – I’d miss Heroes!
